About The Role
As a Reflector Fabricator, you will be responsible for working in a very hands on R&D fabrication environment, specifically helping us construct large reflectors made from thin-film plastics. To us, this is an art, and like all art, it requires skill and a keen eye for detail. We encourage people who enjoy detailed oriented work like sewing and origami to apply, and familiarity with cutting and handling fabrics and thin sheets of materials will be very helpful.
Responsibilities
- turn reflector designs into testable units using hand and machine tools
- design and build jigs and custom tooling to make reflector mfg more efficient, high quality, and precise.
- communicate with engineering frequently to make fabrication problems that stem from design clear
- design and fabricate or purchase infrastructure necessary to make and handle very large reflectors (think many meters in diameter)
Ideal Qualifications
- experience making beautiful, hand crafted, detailed models on a tight timeline
- basic experience with CAD and designing custom jigs and tools.
- lots of comfort independently using tools like laser cutters, vinyl cutters, hand tools, and learning quickly how to use new tools
- big plus if you have clean room experience
- great candidates range from tailors, architects, sculptors, artists to people who have fabricated hardware for the space environment (think James Webb heat shield)
