About The Role
As the Lead Vehicle Design Engineer, you will be responsible for overall integrated design, build, test and functionality of our first vehicles. We will look to you as a Northstar for best spacecraft design practice, and you will play a key role in defining vehicle architecture. We emphasize prior in-space vehicle experience for this role.
Responsibilities
- Own satellite architecture and defining trades.
- Determine high-level design of satellite including subsystem specifications and interfaces, as well as component build vs. buy decisions.
- Provide technical leadership for requirements, design validation and component qualification for the space environment.
- Perform engineering analysis and hands-on prototyping to make trade-off decisions
- Help build the engineering team and set engineering standards
Ideal Qualifications
- You’ve led the design of spacecraft with significant input on high-level architectural trade-offs, resulting in mission success.
- You can intuitively and analytically predict the performance of designs in space.
- You are capable of building scrappy prototypes to evaluate concepts.
- You’ve iterated spacecraft designs against validation/qualification testing to achieve radical improvements in performance and simplicity.
