About The Role
As a Composites R&D Fabricator, you’ll be responsible for turning cutting-edge designs for deployable composites structures into physical reality. From purchasing pre-preg, to maintaining and upgrading our custom curing oven, to milling molds on our in-house CNC, to doing the hand layups yourself, you’ll be responsible for every step of the process to go from CAD to reality. You’ll also have strong input into the design of the composites, as you’ll be the first person to notice when complications arise during fabrication, and you’ll be responsible for brainstorming fabrication solutions to improve the quality of the composite structures you make, to ultimately improve performance. Within 2025, the composite structures you make will be going to space.
Responsibilities
- lead the fabrication effort for all in-house composites
- create custom tooling, molds, and performance testing systems
- purchase and maintain composites tools, materials, and shop
- brainstorm solutions to tricky fabrication issues that are affecting performance
- constantly look for ingenious, high-leverage ways to improve fabrication and performance that results from fabrication
- produce flight-intent composite structures for launch in 2025
Ideal Qualifications
- ideally 4+ years of prior composites experience, and if not, at least 4+ years of technician experience with advanced r&d technology at smaller-sized companies
- a unique love for all things composites. It would be exciting if you managed to know more about composites than we do!
- experience working with spacecraft is a nice-to-have
